Deceased Name: MAUREEN JAPPE LITMAN

Maureen Jappe Litman, 59, of Whiteside Road, died, Sunday April 3, 2005 in her sisters home with her family by her side.

 

She was born March 10, 1946 in Duluth to Julian and Alice (Scott) Jappe.

 

Maureen graduated from Cathedral High School, U.M.D. with a BS in elementary education and continued with a Masters Degree in Infant and Toddler Education. She was an instructor at W.I.T.C.; A.E.O.A Headstart and Fond du Lac Evenstart. She had a deep passion for the early childhood development programs and dedicated her time and energy for over 35 years. Maureen was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church; NAEYC, MNAEYC, WIAEYC and DAEYC. She was recognized by the MNAEYC Region 5, for the work in the field and she won a Founders Award from the DAEYC and was a past president for DAEYC. Maureen volunteered as a DJ at KUMD for 7 years, spinning tunes during the Jazz Program and the Women's Music Program.

 

Her hobbies included Rosemaling and gardening in her flowerbeds and vegetable gardens. She had a love for all animals.

 

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Alice and Fred Scott; Clara and Abe Jappe; her father, Julian Jappe; her husband, Terry Litman; and her brother in-law, Benjamin Gurovitsch.

 

Survivors include her mother, Alice Jappe of Duluth; her daughter, Melanie (Jon Morris) Litman-Morris of Robbinsdale, Minn.; her sisters, Kathy (John Saice) Wiemann of Duluth; Julie Jappe (Nathan Gendzier) of New York, N.Y.; best friend and sister in-law, Sharyl Gurovitsch of Duluth; nieces and nephews, Marya (Chris) Barsanti; Sam Gurovitsch (Fiance, Charity Engstrom); Rachel Gurovitsch; Theresa Derke and Jim (Heather Bradley) Saice; Great nieces and nephews; Ben-Zion Gurovitsch; Emily and Elizabeth Derke; Kacie, Jim, Brian Saice and Kyle Bradley and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

 

VISITATION:6-8 p.m. Wednesday in St. Michael's Catholic Church, 4901 E. Superior St., with wake prayers AT 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Michael's Catholic Church. Memorials are preferred. Direct them to The Maureen Litman Scholarship Fund c/o Kathy Wiemann, 3935 Nelson Road, Duluth, MN 55803. Burial at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd Street.
